Activities That May Affect Your Travel

New York City (NYC) Gridlock Days 2026
NYC Department of Transportation designates the busiest traffic days of the year as Gridlock Alert Days - the days when traffic is expected to be at its slowest and most congested. During these days it’s recommended to plan ahead and consider alternative modes of transportation such as regional rail lines, the 24/7 metropolitan subway and bus system, ferries, cycling, and walking.

Portal North Bridge Replacement Amtrak Impacts
NJ Transit and Amtrack replaced the Portal Bridge over the Hackensack River in New Jersey.
At this phase of the project, temporary outages at different times and locations will be required to connect, test, and commission new tracks over the new bridge. It is anticipated that the number of trains will occasionally be reduced to accommodate this work.
As part of the next scheduled service changes for planned work on the Portal North Bridge, beginning on October 11, all NJ Transit rail lines except the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) will operate on temporarily adjusted schedules.
- On weekdays, all Midtown Direct trains on the Morris & Essex (M&E), Gladstone Branch, and Montclair-Boonton lines will be diverted to Hoboken.
- Weekend Midtown Direct trains will continue to operate to and from Penn Station New York (PSNY).
Regular schedules are expected to resume on Sunday, November 15.
Customers are asked to check schedules before traveling and allow for extra travel time. Those with the ability to work from home are encouraged to do so.
