Analytics Sandbox for Emerging Mobility Data Sources
Welcome to the Mobility Analytics Sandbox for Emerging Mobility Data Sources.
This sandbox has been created to support transportation planners and operators in exploring and validating the potential of emerging mobility data sources.
Every day, the number of providers, capabilities, and coverage of these data sources is growing. It is hard to assess the value of these datasets to NYS, show how these sources fit into day-to-day operations and planning without getting into the details of these sources.
As different parts of the agency embrace the data and analytics revolution, this sandbox has been set up to centralize emerging mobility data access, and enable NYSDOT and partner staff to begin an exploration of the data without having to worry about data storage, curation, quality control.
The analytics sandbox architecture does this by:
Making data, analytical insights, and reporting available to the entire organization and partners.
Providing a lower-cost statewide data (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data) storage option compared with enterprise data warehouse architectures.
Preventing data redundancies, inefficient data movements, and duplication of extract-transform-load (ETL) and data explorations.
Improving data quality using ETL and analytics tools.
Preserving data security by enabling users’ authentication and authorization.
Once a data source is seen as adding value to NYSDOT’s and partner’s goals, the analytics sandbox team and NSYDOT staff will work to figure out a sustainable roadmap for securing and managing the datasets.
How Can the Mobility Analytics Sandbox Fulfill Your Needs?
The Analytics Sandbox continues to be seeded with various data sets on an ongoing basis. These data sets may pull from crowdsourced traffic data, bicycle and pedestrian data, and others. Check back frequently to see what is new.
The Analytics Sandbox is designed to scale as new data sources and data explorations are evaluated and added to the database.
Users have the benefit to freely access statewide resources on-demand.
To gain access to the restricted resources, users must request authorization and receive confirmation via an email to DataSupport@511mobility.org.
The Analytics Sandbox Data Services environment also takes requests for storing and processing the transportation/analytical data that YOU need on a regular basis. Thus offloading the data burden for your team to allow you to focus on your task at hand.
We welcome recommendations from users on how to make these resources more useful and usable. Please send feedback to our team at DataSupport@511mobility.org.
